City of Niš signed 1.6m EUR worth of contract with Swedes on design of feasibility study for development of Airport "Konstantin Veliki" and wastewater treatment unit in public utility company "Naisus"

The highest representatives of City of Niš have signed the contract with Swedish consulting company SEK and the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden on provision of consulting services in the making of feasibility studies for the programme for environmental and technical development of Airport "Konstantin Veliki", as well as for the programme for development wastewater treatment units in public utility company “Naisus”.

In the first phase of realization of the Contract, SEK and the management of Niš will start design of the study for the Airport, which is the precondition for the approval of funds by the Government of Sweden.

The second feasibility study will be designed for public utility company "Naisus" because the wastewater treatment, as Mayor Miloš Simonović and the representatives of Swedish delegation agreed, is of crucial importance to the city that is as big as Niš.

Once aforementioned studies are completed, Niš will be the only city in Serbia to meet the EU standards concerning planning and optimal financing model. The financially acceptable feasibility studies will make Niš-based Airport "Konstantin Veliki" and public utility company "Naissus" the most competitive companies for foreign donors and investors.

Aforementioned financially acceptable feasibility studies are necessary precondition for use of funds from the EU funds, and they will represent a comparative advantage when these companies apply for non-refundable loans of European funds.

The feasibility study for the programme for development of wastewater treatment unit is worth 1.1m EUR, while the value of the study for environmental and technical development of the airport is 500,000 EUR. More than 50% of the required funds will be provided by the Government of Sweden.

- In addition to elaboration of the justification studies for Niš-based airport and water supply system, we have also reached the agreement with the Swedish delegation on making of the Study on energy development of Niš, which will be directly financed by the Government of Sweden. Financially acceptable feasibility studies for the airport and water supply system in Niš, as well as announced Study on energy development, are very important documents for normal functioning of the city – said Mayor Miloš Simonović.
