"Ikea" negotiates with Đunić and Subotić about procurement of land – owners aks 80m EUR for building lot at 35-40 ha

Swedish company "Ikea", the world’s largest chain for furniture sales, seeks building lot alongside the highway, between New Belgrade and Airport "Nikola Tesla", for construction of trade center in Belgrade.

According to "Politika", their condition is that the size of the parcel must be between 35 and 40 hectares, and that it is situated on the right side of the highway, although it is not of crucial importance. The request that they are not going to give up is the vicinity of the Airport.

Such criteria could be satisfied by the parcels owned by companies of Danko Đunić and Stanko Subotić. The representatives of the Swedish company, as "Politika" learned from unofficial sources, have already spoken to them, but the agreement has not been reached yet because the price is much too high. The owners ask 2m EUR per ha, or about 80m EUR for land without fees for infrastructural connections.

By the way, the arrival of company "Ikea" in Serbia was announced long time ago. Two years ago, the city of Belgrade offered the land next to the Pačevo road and the Ibarska main route to that furniture manufacturer, but those locations did not meet their criteria.

"Ikea" recognized capacities of Serbian market about 15 years ago, and that is why it bought and registered about 20 ha of cultivated fields in Novi Banovci in order to have a production-retail center built on that location. On that occasion, the company from Sweden opened a furniture store in “Hyatt". Political situation in the country at that time made “Ikea” change its business policy, close the store and redirect its operations to some better organized markets.
