Government of Serbia to equalize tolls for trucks on February 5th

- The Government of Serbia will equalize the prices of tolls for local and foreign trucks at the meeting on Thursday (February 5, 2009) - Milutin Mrkonjić, the Minister of Infrastructure, announced.

According to Minister Mrkonjić, it was agreed at the meeting with Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković and ministers of finance and economy that the foreign trucks should pay the same price of toll as local ones.

The amount of toll is determined by the Government of Serbia to the suggestion of public company "Putevi Srbije". Unofficially, "Putevi" has prepared the proposal for correction of toll prices. Toll for local vehicles will be increased by 20%, while the toll for foreign vehicles will be decreased by 25%. In that way, the prices for local and foreign vehicles would be equalized.

By the way, the toll for Serbian towing trucks for the section between Belgrade and Niš amounts to 4,390 RSD, while the toll for foreign heavy trucks costs 77 EUR, that is, 7,170 RSD.

If the prices of tolls for all categories of foreign vehicles were lowered to the level of the tolls for local vehicles, “Putevi Srbije” would lose 40m EUR worth of incomes.
