Law on Foreigners adopted

The National Assembly of Serbia adopted the Law on Foreigners on March 22. The law aims to define the rights and obligations of foreign residents in Serbia.

The law regulates the terms of entrance, movement and stay, and returning of foreigners, as well as the competence of the state organs of Serbia.

For the first time, the Security Information Agency is introduced to the provisions of the Law on Foreigners, as the state organ which performs the security check on foreigners.

The law lists the reasons for refusing entry to foreigners and defines the decision on the standardized entry refusal form, which cite the exact reasons for the refusal of entry and the deadlines, and the possibility of complaint is introduced as well.

The MPs of the ruling majority submitted over 340 amendments to the law, which the National Assembly didn't adopt, though it was pointed out during the discussion that they were “not unreasonable” and that their goal was to “improve the law”.
