– The document we signed today enables us to start preparing the feasibility study and the general plan, which will be completed in nine months, after which we will present the results to the citizens of Belgrade, thereby creating the basis for the executive design. The Belgrade subway is a strategically important project, and France, Serbia and the City of Belgrade will continue carrying out joint activities on the project of the Belgrade subway, which is to be realized in line with the public management of the project and leaning on French expertise in the field of subway construction – Mali said.
He added that the first part of the first subway line, from Makisko Polje to the Pancevo Bridge or to Ada Huja, will be the priority, and the construction should start in two years, that is, in 2020.
– It's important to note that the existing BG Voz railway network is to be fully integrated into the subway. This was not the case before, as the previous analyses and studies did not take into consideration the real potentials of BG Voz. We have recognized those potentials and the subway, combined with BG Voz, will be the backbone of the rail traffic infrastructure in Belgrade – Mali said.
The mayor reminded that the Masterplan of traffic infrastructure Smartplan had been prepared in 2017, envisaging the construction of two subway lines of 22.5 km and 19.8 km.
Minister of Finance Dusan Vujovic said that the construction of a subway was a very important and serious project, bringing Belgrade and Serbia closer to Europe.
– This is not just a big infrastructural project for the City of Belgrade, which will enable it to come closer to important capitals of Europe, but also the right way to prepare infrastructural projects in which, aside from providing funds, we also plan a previous preparation of feasibility studies, taking into account all the potential difficulties and finding the best solutions before laying down the foundation stone – Minister Vujovic said.
He said that he believed that the project would be supported by the citizens of Serbia, but also the EU, all as part of getting closer to the European Union.
