Government of Serbia adopts draft law on dual education

The Government of Serbia adopted the draft law on dual education, which is supposed to enable more efficient education and provide young people with an opportunity to get a job as soon as they finish secondary school, on Monday, October 9, 2017.

The aims of the law are harmonization of secondary education with the needs of the economy, reduction of unemployment rate in the under-25 population and strengthening of Serbia's regional and global competitiveness, it is emphasized in the press release by the Government's PR Office.

The Government of the Republic of Serbia also adopted draft laws on amendments to the law on pre-school, primary and secondary education.

The draft laws pertain primarily to harmonization with the draft systemic education law recently adopted by the National Assembly.

It redefines the amount of time students spend in school, aiming to create a different image of a school as a place for students' education and development, but with room for out-of-class activities, which used to be neglected in the past.

Potentials of education tourism are also expanded – schools and specialized institutions for children and students providing adequate conditions, which can become centers for realizing classes in nature, thereby lowering the expenses of such activities, while at the same time aiding local development.

A new concept of final examinations is implemented, aiming to enhance the quality of secondary education and provide students with an easier access to higher degrees of education.
