Raspberry purchase price to be known by July 13? – Government and raspberry producers agree to form working team

Representative of raspberry producers stated on Thursday, July 6, 2017, that Prime Minister Ana Brnabic had supported many of their requests at the meeting at the Government of Serbia and that a working team would be formed with the aim of looking into how the price of raspberry was formed in the competing countries of Europe in the next week.

As they said, the prime minister proposed for the raspberry market in Europe to be examined before Thursday, but also to determine whether there was a monopoly of purchasers in Serbia.

Vice president of the association of raspberry producers of Serbia, Dobrivoje Radovic, said that he was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting with Prime Minister Brnabic and representatives of cooling plants, considering that there had been a “slight progress”.

– Representatives of cooling plants claimed one thing, whereas we claimed something else, as always, but there has been a slight progress and I expect that we will have had some concrete results regarding the price by next Thursday – Radovic said.

As he says, the most important thing is for the starting price of raspberry to be formed in the territory of Serbia. He added that the dialogue would continue on Thursday and explained that the starting price was the price one couldn’t go below in the purchase.

Radovic reminded that the association had requested for the average price to be EUR 1.83, or RSD 200, but that the working group would examine what the price of raspberry was in Poland and that it would take into consideration the higher quality of the Serbian raspberry.

According to him, Poland will be visited by representatives of raspberry producers and the ministries of agriculture and trade.

– In a week, we will know whether the price will be 200, 250 or 180 dinars – Radovic said.

Radovic said that raspberry producers would request an opinion from the Commission for Protection of Competition and that the procedure was already in progress, as inspection services were present in all cooling plants in Serbia.

Brnabic and raspberry producers agreed to form a working team to monitor the formation of prices in the local market and the competing markets in order to reach an agreement on a purchase price of raspberry acceptable to everybody, the Government of Serbia reported previously.

The talks were also attended by the ministers of trade, tourism and telecommunications and agriculture, forestry and water management, Rasim Ljajic and Branislav Nedimovic.
