Jobs for medical workers, dismissals in education - Government adopts decision on headcount in public sector for 2017

Serbia is waiting for primary and secondary education reconstruction this year, mostly through reorganization of the school network. At the same time, health care system will be strengthened with employment of more than 2,500 medical personnel, Blic reports.

600 tax inspectors will get the job in order to strengthen Tax Administration capacities. This news is contained in the Decision on maximum number of public sector employees for 2017, which the Government of Serbia adopted on Monday, June 19, Belgrade newspaper finds out.

- For the first time, we are working on a serious reorganization in education. By the end of 2017, a reduction of more than 2,700 working norms (one standard norm equals full-time job) in primary and secondary education is planned, which will result from more efficient resources distribution and better organization of education. This effect will be achieved mainly through school network reorganization- the Ministry of Public Administration communicated for Belgrade’s newspaper.

The Ministry also stated that "at least 2,500 medical workers, of which 2,000 sisters and 500 doctors will be employed by the end of the year".

- If we have in mind that we will be moving 2,000 doctors who have so far worked on a definite contract into permanent employment relationship, we can talk about health care headcount increase of 4,500, the ministry said.

They also stated that employment of 600 tax inspectors more in Tax Administration by the end of 2017 "is especially important for fighting gray economy and maintaining tax discipline."

The Ministry of State Administration points out that changes will be implemented for local governments as well.

According to them, "intensive analyzes and international comparisons showed that a story of 75,000 surplus workers in the public sector is not accurate."

According to Beta, compared to 2015, when the number of employees with definite contracts in public services was limited to 462,674 employees, this year, the number is lower for 11,241 and totals 451,433.
