Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA made record net profit in the fiscal year 2015/16 thanks to kitchen and dining room equipment revenues.
The group reported, on December 7, that it had made EUR 4.2 billion in profit, 20% more than the previous year, despite having paid more in taxes in the fiscal year which had ended in August, AFP reports.
According to the company's report, the IKEA Group paid EUR 1.2 billion in income tax worldwide, at the tax rate of 21.6%, compared to 18.9% in the previous year, as a result of the advocacy by “green MPs” in the European Parliament of an “aggressive tax planning policy”.
The IKEA Group in the Netherlands, which controls most of the brand's stores in the world, reported back in September that its turnover had jumped by 7.1% to EUR 34.2 billion, In local currencies, the growth amounted to 7.9%.
In the 10-year period, IKEA's revenues have nearly doubled, and the number of stores has increased by slightly over 50%. In the meantime, IKEA developed online sales as well, which now make up 4% of the total sales.
Nearly 400 IKEA sales outlets in 48 countries were visited by 915 million customers from September 2015 till August 2016, the company reported.
