They've concluded that the song in question is “Weightless” by the English ambient band Marconi Union.
The neurologists carried out a study with the subjects solving puzzles while connected to sensors. The puzzles raised their stress levels, and the scientists measured their brain activity, heart rate, blood pressure and breathing at the moment. Dr David Lewis-Hodgson of Mindlab International says that “Weightless” led to greater relaxation than any other piece of music tested.
This song was so effective that it reduced the stress level by as much as 65%. Lyz Cooper, founder of the British Academy of Sound Therapy, explains that the song has a rhythm of 60 beats per second, which lowers to 50 beats as the song progresses. While listening to it, your heart rate slowly starts to adjust to the rhythm.
Reducing the heart rate leads to lowering the blood pressure, the process also aided by the intervals used in the song being specifically designed to induce feelings of euphoria and comfort. The songs was created in cooperation between the musicians and sound therapists.
