The International Handball Federation (IHF) has announced a ban on the use of handball glue. As Balkan Handball portal reports, the controlling body of world handball has been testing a ball which can be handled as easily by players as the regular one with glue for some time now. To that end, the company Molten has been contacted, which has invested over a million dollars in the development of such a product.

Molten is close to completing the job and the ball will start being used by the end of 2017 at the latest.

The use of handball glue is problematic as it is unhealthy. Also, numerous sports halls throughout the world forbid its use, above all due to necessity of cleaning the floors, which leads to higher expenses, but also because the glue ruins the floors. Another reason is that the color of the ball, unique to each championship, is only visible in the first few minutes of a game, before it gets covered in glue. Some parents don't allow their children to play handball precisely due to the use of glue.

As soon as Molten starts distributing the ball, the ban on the use of handball glue will be passed. This is expected to happen at the IHF 2017 Congress. The rule would then become enforceable in all championships throughout the world.
