(Illustration) Ordinary aspirin could bring revolution in the cancer treatment method since it extends life to patients suffering carcinoma, it was said in research of Dutch scientists.

As Russia Today reports, the research comprised 14.000 people who were diagnosed cancer of gastrointestinal tract, in the period 1998 to 2011.

For the ones taking aspirin, since check was done four years after, the drug had significant effect; these people had double chance to stay alive.

Research results were presented at this year’s European Congress for cancer in Vienna.

- We would now like to analyze tumors of patients and to discover which were affected by aspirin. Since that drug is cheap, with minor contraindications, it will have huge influence on health as well as on patients – one of the researchers of the study, dr. Martin Frous from the University Leiden in the Netherlands says.
