ANTIC: Serbia still does not have serious alternative to Russian gas

Serbia has firmly decided to provide new sources and routes for gas supplying in line with new energy doctrine in Europe and a part of that policy is construction of gas pipeline between Serbia and Bulgaria, the minister of mining and energy, Aleksandar Antic said on Friday, September 18, 2015.

He said to journalists in Belgrade that the support of USA for gas interconnection with Bulgaria is important because of positive influence on EU, to participate in larger share in project funding, The prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, upon his visit to USA, said Serbia has been working on gas source diversification.

- Serbia still does not have a serious alternative to Russian gas but we expect that with the construction of big gas projects, first of all, Tap and Tanap gas pipeline, and liquid gas terminal (LNG) in Greece, Serbia from Bulgarian side will have the option to provide additional gas quantities – Antic said.

He outlined interconnection between Serbia and Bulgaria is not part of the project of connecting to Russian gas but the possibility of gas supplying from Azerbaijan and other parts of the world.

When journalists asked whether seven companies in restructuring, for which solutions will be found by the end of the year include Pancevo-based Azotara as well, Antic said that they optimistically expect solution for privatization of Petrohemija, Azotara from Pancevo and MSK from Kikinda.

Antic said that Petrohemija has now been generating good financial results and pays electricity regularly and primary gasoline and that for MSK and Azotara, positive solutions have been achieved which is a good call for potential buyers.
