This year’s soy yield in the world could reach a historical maximum of 280 million tons could for the first time in a quarter of a century, to satisfy demand and thus generate market balance.
In the world, soy is cultivated on 100 million hectares, at the fourth position
after wheat, corn and rice.
USA is the biggest producer with production of 85 million tons on 30 million hectares.
USA, Brazil and Argentina provide 80% of total world soy production, mainly GMO
kind. Europe is a small producer, with a stake of only two percent in the world
production.
The biggest soy importers in the world are China and EU as well as Southeast
Asia countries.
China is definitely the biggest importer but not producer although it used to
be before 1940. The Chinese spend two thirds of total world soy production.
It is a paradox that current increased demand for soy in China is a result of
increased meat consumption, especially among the middle class because
agricultural plant now is in demand due to cattle food as well as oil
production.
Due to soy price boost conditioned by higher demand than offer, Brazil, used to
cut dozens of thousand hecatres of wood per year to increase soy harvest area.
Thanks to record production in USA and Argentina and excellent harvest in Brazil,
Chinese needs for soy this year will be completely fulfilled which has already affected
oil plant price decrease.
