Overview

Bačka Palanka is a large-size municipality covering the area of 579 km². Besides its administrative centre, Bačka Palanka, the municipality includes 13 settlements: Čelarevo, Obrovac, Tovariševo, Karađorđevo, Mladenovo, Nova Gajdobra, Gajdobra, Silbaš, Despotovo, Pivnice, and Parage; Neštin and Vizić settlements are located on the opposite bank of the river Danube. It is located on the bank of the river Danube in the south-western part of Bačka region, 43 km away from Novi Sad and 102 km from Belgrade Airport.

Population

On the territory of Bačka Palanka live 60,966 inhabitants. The population of the municipality is ethnically heterogeneous: the majority are Serbs (74%), followed by Slovaks (12%) and then Hungarians, Roma, Montenegrins, Croats, etc. Over 60% of the population are people of working age. Currently, there are 11,500 unemployed persons.

Economy

Bačka Palanka is one of the ten most developed municipalities in Vojvodina. Agriculture, with its great potentials, and industrial production are both well developed, including meat industry and food processing industry, flooring and carpets, construction materials, furniture, textile. The well-known Serbian company ‘’Nektar’’ is based in Bačka Palanka. Two large-scale investments have come to Bačka Palanka: Carlsberg and Tarkett companies have invested into Čelarevo brewery and floor lining industry, respectively.

Infrastructure

In addition to the river Danube, two navigable canals within the Danube-Tisa-Danube system are also important traffic routes. There are two most important principal roads: the first one runs from Novi Sad, through Bačka Palanka to Sombor, going further to Croatia; the second one runs north to Hungary. Bačka Palanka is also one of the most important border crossings (to Croatia) .

Tourism

The greatest natural resource of Bačka Palanka is the river Danube. There is also Tikvara Danube Lake, the size of which is 500 ha. The Tikvara Resort complex is built alongside the lake for practicing various sports, recreational and entertaining activities. The municipality has a number of archaeological sites and monuments of cultural and ethnological value, the most significant being the archaeological site near the big game hunting ground in Karađorđevo.

LOCATION 1

Site: South Industrial Zone (a part of Block 94, Blocks 95, 96, 100, 101, 101a, 101b, 104 and 107), Bačka Palanka

Total area: 210 ha

Type of ownership: State and private property

Intended use: Construction of industrial plant complexes and small-scale industry facilities (Blocks 95, 101b and 104, and parts of Blocks 96, 101, 101a); utility complex (parts of Blocks 101b and 107); freight railway station (a part of block 107); water retention area (Block 101); traffic terminal (Block 96); sports centre (Block 95).

Site description: The site is located next to the M7 principal road, and 4.3km away from the freight railway line. The “May 25th” bridge is 1 km away from the site. The following companies operate in the south Industrial Zone: “Maltinex“ malt factory, “Marina“ textile factory, “Tarkett“ and “Sintelon“ floor coverings factories, and free zone facilities.

Infrastructure: The existing infrastructure is sufficient to meet the needs of the current users. However, construction of new structures would require new infrastructure to be built. The planned activities include: construction of freight railway line and station; re-location and construction of sewage system (surface and subterranean); addressing the problem of waste water release from the industrial plants; construction of a new gas pipeline distribution network; construction of a wastewater plant and pump stations; construction of a separate water supply network.

LOCATION 2

Site: North Industrial Zone (Blocks 77, 77a, 82, 82a, 82b and 87), Bačka Palanka

Total area: 131 ha

Type of ownership: State and private property

Intended use: Construction of industrial plant complexes and small-scale industry premises (Blocks 77a, 82a, 82b and 87)

Site description: The site is located next to the M 7 principal road, 2 km away from the freight railway line. The “25th May“ bridge is 3 km far from the site. The following companies operate within the north Industrial Zone: a food processing and juice factory; industrial workshops and business premises for manufacturing and services; industrial plants; a bull-calves and pig-breeding farm; a petrol station with support facilities.

Infrastructure: The existing infrastructure is sufficient to meet the needs of the current users. However, construction of new structures would require new infrastructure to be built. The planned activities include: re-location and gauging a part of the existing high-voltage line, and construction of a new network; re-location of a part of the existing gas pipeline and construction of a new gas distribution network; construction of a separate sewerage reticulation (surface and subterranean, wastewater and other); and addressing the problem of waste water release from the industrial plants.

The required planning and regulatory documentation already exists - it is the Bačka Palanka Master Plan for Blocks 77, 77a, 82, 82a, 82b and 87.

LOCATION 3

Site: Block 19 (on the bank of the river Danube, Tikvara Lake), Bačka Palanka

Total area: 18 ha 6 a 60 m2

Type of ownership: State property

Intended use: construction of a sports and leisure centre

Site description

The site is located 1.8 km off the M 7 principal road, 500 m away from the “25th May“ bridge, and 4km away from the freight railway line. The following structures/facilities can be found in the block 19: Water-sport Club, a freshwater fish restaurant, support facilities, and two catering establishments in the process of construction.

Infrastructure

The Block 19 has a direct connection to the town centre. The site has access to power and water supply systems. Sewerage reticulation and gas pipeline are 200m away. The planned activities include: power and water supply system reconstruction and improvement; gas pipeline construction; sewerage reticulation construction; optical fibre cable connection. Cable-distributional network is being constructed.

Additional information

Preparation of the required planning and regulatory documentation, i.e. Master Plan for this part of the town, is underway.

LOCATION 4

Site: Terminal area (Block 106), Bačka Palanka

Total area: 190 ha 79 a

Type of ownership: State property

Intended use: Construction of industrial plant complexes, small-scale industry facilities and a marina.

Site description

The site is located 500 m off the M 7 principal road, 1km away from the “25th May“ bridge, and 5km away from the freight railway line.

Infrastructure

The existing infrastructure is sufficient to meet the needs of the current users. However, construction of new structures would require new infrastructure to be built. A Cable-distributional network is being constructed.

The required planning and regulatory documentation already exists. It is the Master Plan of the Block 106, Terminal Area of Bačka Palanka .
