Construction of University housing project to start on April 15 – tender for builders of structures to follow

The visible works on the construction of the University housing project will officially commence on April 15 with the installation of 2,500 stilts, although the preparation of building site and digging of the foundation pit in Novi Beograd’s Block 67 already lasts for some time.

In the meantime, in about month and half, the announcement of tender for builders of structures will follow, so that the entire complex could be finished one month before the beginning of the University Games, which will take place in June 2009 in Belgrade. The sale of apartments will start in mid-2007 and the buyers will be able to move into them after the end of the sports manifestation.

– This project requires participation of the entire building operative of Serbia since very large surfaces are in question and the deadline is short. Everybody is a bit skeptical, although the construction of such complexes lasts for two years anywhere in Europe. At this moment, the most important is that the funding commences in mid-April. When the building rushes off, everything will be much easier – says Branislav Simović, the Manager of company "Mace".

According to his estimate, the installation of stilts should last for 80 days. It will be followed by the laying of the foundation. Best proof of the size of this project is the fact that between 25 and 27 cranes will be used on this building site.

The investor – company "Block 67 Associates”, the joint venture of Austrian "CEE investment" and local "Delta", will assign this housing project to the organizers of the University Games once the construction is completed.

The project implies that 1,850 apartments and two business buildings – 10-floor building of 15,000 square meters at the very corner of Jurija Gagarina Street and three-floor building of 7,500 square meters in the central part of the block - be built in the area between Agostina Neta Street and Jurija Gagarina Street.
