Draft of new law on planning and construction ready by end-May

A draft of the new law on planning and construction will be finished by end-May, after which it will be made available to all interested institutions that want to give their opinion, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Zoran Mihajlovic said after a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Michael Kirby.

As the Press Service of the Serbian government announced, the two sides talked at the meeting about the possibility of accelerating the building permitting process in Serbia and transportation and infrastructure projects.

Mihajlovic noted that the new law should strive to facilitate the issuing of building permits, primarily through the formation of an Emergency Management Office.

Speaking about transportation projects and the rehabilitation of roads damaged by floods, the minister pointed out that the most important thing to do was to define priorities and then start the renovation of infrastructure.

Mihajlovic and Kirby agreed that the recovery of the construction industry was significant for the economic development of Serbia, and Kirby stressed that his country was ready to provide all the necessary assistance and support in the implementation of reforms in Serbia.
