Construction of golf course finally starts near Budva? - Belgians apply for building permit

The honorary consul of Belgium in Montenegro, businessman Jean-Luc Dumortier, filed a request on Thursday for the issue of building permit for a golf course on the Spas Hill near Budva, thus ending an eight-year agony of attempts to implement this project.
The request was submitted to the Ministry of Sustainable Development by Montenegro Golf Course, a joint venture of Belgians and the Budva municipality.

This project has been accompanied by nothing but problems from the very start. After he bought an 80-hectare complex on the Spas Hill eight years ago and revealed his intentions to have the first 18-hole golf course, two hotels and 20 villas for rent built in that location, Dumortier was sued by the locals for buying a part of that land from a fake owner.

A year ago the Montenegrin government gave the green light to the Budva municipality to contribute its 310,000 square meters of land to the company Montenegro Golf Course. The municipality holds a 15-percent stake in that company, whereas the rest is owned by Dumortier.
