Investments of 600-700m EUR into Stara mountain, candidacy for Winter Olympic Games in some ten years ?

The tourism development project on Stara Mountain could be Serbia's most important investment project in the following period, with potential investments in amount of 600-700m EUR, the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services, Bojan Dimitrijević, stated upon the presentation of the first phase of the master tourism development plan on Stara Mountain.

Dimitrijevic said that the Republic wants that mountain to become a leader in mountain tourism in Southeast Europe. The project implies that the total capacities of the ski resort amount to around 30,000 skiers a day, along with the accommodation capacities of 18,000 beds, which would create the opportunity for employment of up to 10,000 workers from municipalities of Zaječar, Knjaževac, Pirot and Dimitrovgrad.

The master plan implies cooperation with Bulgaria, on the territory of which are two thirds of the Stara Mountain massif and with which Serbia could candidate for the host of the Winter Olympic Games in about ten years.

Prior to the New Year, the four-seat ski lift, 3 ski tracks and 800 meters of road should be constructed on Stara Mountain, as well as mountain center rehabilitated and long-distance power line network reconstructed.
