ILIC: Citizens don't have to legalize facilities

(Velimir Ilic)

Minister of Construction and Town Planning Velimir Ilic said today that the citizens of Serbia don't have to legalize their facilities, but only enter them into the real estate registry.

- If you own a facility for 30 years and nobody has complained to date, it is enough to enter it into the registry - Ilic told the national broadcasting corporation of Serbia (RTS).

He pointed out that people in Serbia confused the Law on Registration with the Real Estate Registry that the Serbian parliament had already adopted with the Legalization Law that was going to be discussed by MP's in October.

Therefore, Ilic explained that legalization was expensive and required voluminous documentation, whereas the registration with the real estate registry cost only EUR 100 with no additional expenses.

Ilic noted that legalization was necessary for buildings intended for sale, adding that full legalization required a complete project documentation.

According to the estimates done by the Ministry of Construction and Town Planning, there are about 1,300,000 illegally built facilities in Serbia.
