RGA: New Law on State Survey and Cadaster enables easier registration of ownership based on old documents

The new Law on Amendments to the Law on State Survey and Cadaster, which brings great relief for citizens and enables easier registration of ownership rights based on old documents, entered into force on October 31, the Republic Geodetic Authority (RGA) announced.

The most important new feature is the introduction of convalidation - a procedure that recognizes the legal validity of old documents that have formal deficiencies, but clearly prove ownership.

– In practice, this means that several tens of thousands of old documents - which until now could only be registered in the real estate cadaster database through court proceedings - can finally be resolved simply, quickly and digitally – the statement says.

As stated, the deficiencies of these old documents are most often formal - a stamp, a statement on registration permission, a plot number or some other data are missing - but the essence of the proof of ownership exists. The new law allows such documents to be recognized and registration to be carried out without additional paperwork. Citizens will be able to submit the request electronically via the Republic Geodetic Authority application, available on the RGA website starting from January 1, 2026. This means that anyone will be able to submit the request independently, without going to a counter or hiring a lawyer, even via mobile phone.

– When the conditions are met, the cadaster will make the registration within five working days, and the decision will be able to be reviewed within a year – the statement adds.
