Works on hotel in Rajiceva Street to start in February

Works on a modern building complex, spanning about 58,000 square meters in Rajiceva Street, will finally start in February, the Israeli company Ashtrom International confirmed for the daily paper Vecernje Novosti. On the most attractive hectare of building space in Belgrade, in the vicinity of Kalemegdan, with an access to streets Knez Mihailova, Rajiceva and Uzun Mirkova, the first five-star hotel in the center of the capital city, a shopping mall and underground garages are planned to be built. The main investor is the company ABD Ltd. - the Belgrade-based affiliate of the company Ashtrom International.

This exclusive lot in Rajiceva has been an eyesore in the city center and protected zone of Knez Mihailova for years. A tin fence painted in all colors hides an enormous hole that has in the meantime turned into a muddy lake that may also endanger the stability of neighboring buildings. Commencement of works in Rajiceva has already been announced several times, but it was then postponed due to a search for archeological remains from the Roman period in this location and disputes with the Civic Association for Restitution of Property.

Investors say that archeologists have finally finished their job and that the works will definitely start in February.

- ABD plans to invest about 100 million euros in the project in Rajiceva, as well as to hire domestic companies and employ few hundred people at the mall and hotel – said the people at the Israeli company.

- Thanks to this investment, the capital city will obtain the most modern, most beautiful and most luxury shopping mall, a five-star hotel, and garages for 600 cars. The complex will be built in accordance with the world's highest standards, visitors will have an unique chance to enjoy a view of the city and Kalemegdan, and the project also includes construction of a new depot for the Library of the city of Belgrade.

In the location in Rajiceva, ABD has already finished all the preparation works. The architectural solution for the complex is based on an awarded work whose authors are Milan and Vladimir Lojanica.

- Construction works will be carried out in two phases and they are planned to be finished until 2013. The project is designed in accordance with the requirements of modern complexes on one side and the protected historical area of Knez Mihailova on the other.
