City Hall on the Crnica river - Paracin gets modern cultural center in 2011

By the end of 2011, Paracing will get an unusual architectural symbol - a modern cultural center modeled after the City Hall in London and similar facilities in Texas, California and Canada. The recognizable characteristics of the building on the quay alongside the Crnica river, that is, at future Suncani Trg (Sunny Square), will be a specific round form and a big glass cupola above the multifunctional hall. For the three-floor facility occupying the net surface of 1,544 square meters, the Directorate for Development of Paracin has earmarked about 107 million dinars, and the future center will be unique in the city and its surroundings.

As people from the municipality of Paracin explained for eKapija, the multifunctional "city hall" will host numerous cultural, social and commercial manifestations and promotions. The facility will comprise two multifunctional halls, one on the ground floor and one on the third floor, beneath the cupola, while a parking lot will be situated in the cellar. The cultural center will have a modern equipment for audio and visual presentations, stage, functional and decorative lighting, synchronized air heating and cooling, as well as an automatic fire protection system.

The authors of the preliminary solution are architects Sima and Milos Gusic from Nis-based project bureau Forma Antika, while the project implementation will be run by Director of the Directorate for Development of Paracin Zoran Mihajlovic on behalf of the investor.

When it comes to other facilities intended for cultural life, Paracin also has an amateur theater where several plays are performed every month, a library, a gallery, and a cinema that is in ruins and is not in use any more. The theater was built in 1969, it occupies the surface of 830 square meters and has about 400 seats. That facility is used for the needs of various cultural and other smaller manifestations. The building of the library also hosts several other institutions - cultural center and music school. That facility is also quite old and requires urgent and complete reconstruction since dampness already endangers the books. The building of the gallery was built in 1928 and it represents a monument of culture.
