Djokovic interested in building golf complex in the hinterland of Jaz beach - EUR 300m investment planned

Tennis player Novak Djokovic is interested in buying a large land complex in the hinterland of Jaz beach, where he would build the first 18-hole golf course in this area of the Adriatic coast, along with hotels and adjacent facilities, with support of an investment fund from the United Arab Emirates.

Several sources confirmed to "Vijesti" that the world's number 1 tennis player stated that over EUR 300 million is planned to be invested.

Djokovic came to Montenegro in late January, allegedly in order to check the potentials of the Mrcevo polje location. The newspaper's sources claim that he also met informally with the legal representatives of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Jaz - Mrcevo polje. This organization gathers over 600 Grbalj residents, owners of 2.2 million m2 of land in the hinterland.

Allegedly, Djokovic talked to them at a dinner in the ethno-village owned by the mayor of Budva, Marko Carevic, located in the Grbalj village of Krimovica. The source advised "Vijesti" that Djokovic said he speaks on behalf of one of the leading investment funds, interested in building the golf course.

Several sources state that he also mentioned several other countries being interested in attracting investors - from Serbia to Africa, and that the total budget for the project exceeds EUR 300 million.

Representatives of the NGO allegedly pointed out to Djokovic that there are still ownership-related legal issues in the area and that he should also discuss this with state officials. The source claims that they advised Djokovic they are ready to support the project.
