Copy linkIKEA erects tower in front of future department store in Bubanj Potok – Works close to being completed, opening planned for summer
IKEA has announced that the construction works on its first department store in Serbia, as well as the development of the area around it, at Bubanj Potok, is nearing completion. As part of the completion, the symbol of the department store, the IKEA tower, 45 meters tall, has been erected.
As stated in the press release, this steps brings the company closer to offering “products characterized by good design, functionality, quality and sustainability at prices low enough for most people to be able to afford”.
It is added that IKEA is constantly improving energy efficiency in an effort to secure energy independence through increased production of renewable energy relative to the amount consumed by the company in its operations. In line with these principles, the first department store in Serbia, at Bubanj Potok, features modern technologies which contribute to sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the facility's operations.
Among its numerous advantages is the system for separation and disposal of 23 waste fractions, aiming to have less than 10% of the waste end up in landfills.
The department store features geothermal pumps with six geothermal wells for heating and cooling the facility. Collected rainwater will be used in toilets, which is perhaps the first such example of maintenance in a department store in the market of Serbia.
The facility features interior and exterior LED lighting exclusively, allowing it to make great savings in consumption of electricity. Solar panels on the roof provide a part of the energy necessary for the facility to operate, and a central facility management system will be installed as well to the end of optimizing energy consumption.
The IKEA department store should open this summer. It will offer a range of over 9.500 products, a modern restaurant and a special area for animating children on more than 33,000 square meters. The facility will feature a developed area with 1,200 parking spaces and an electric car charger will also be available nearby.
