The Terazije Terrace – a meeting place

Belgrade might soon get a new square on the span from Terazije St. to the Belgrade Bus Station and the Faculty of Economics, between Balkanska St, Prizrenska St. and Kraljice Natalije St.

The first-prize conceptual design for the Terazije Terrace project has been authored by the architectural design studio ARCVS Belgrade and the architect Branislav Redzic. The studio will also act as a consultant in the preparation of the technical documentation.

Branislav Redzic says for eKapija that the latest version of the conceptual design entails the technical adjustment of the project, considering that it needs to provide the quality foundation for the main project.

As Redzic explains, the inclination of the terrain has made them decide on a sloping square. The paved area is around 4,000 m2, surrounded by, as our interviewee says, rich greenery. The green area next to the paved square will be intersected by footpaths. It will be adapted to children, the elderly and, of course, persons with reduced mobility.

The stairs will be around a hundred meters long and 40 meters wide and will be paved with granite, whereas water will flow down the middle section. The stairs will allow for a vast array of meetings and events.

An information center, a gallery and an exclusive hospitality structure are planned for the bottom of the square's slope. The penetration of light and communication through the currently devastated underground passages, our interviewee hopes, will cause their revitalization.
