Reed houses, park to give way to skyscrapers - Galens to build 40,000 sq m building in Novi Sad

Reed houses in Kraljevića Marka Street will soon give way to a concrete complex of skyscrapers. As a reminder - the Novi Sad city authorities decided last year to scrap protection of the reed houses, amending an earlier plan in order to allow construction of buildings up to nine floors tall that will replace Vojvodina's oldest houses and a planned park.

Over the past months, all land plots have been purchased by the Galens company - known to Novi Sad residents for the demolition of the Komunalna banka building in Narodnih heroja Street for the purpose of building a 13-floor skyscraper and a 40,000-plus sq m building - with construction on the site now expected to begin.

Although there has been no information to date on what the complex will look like, what is known for now is that construction of the all-concrete complex, with several eight- and nine-floor buildings and tens of thousands of square metres of residential space, is to follow.

The start date for the construction works remains unknown for now, with unofficial information indicating that they should begin by the end of the year, once the reed houses have been torn down.
