Sports center instead of dump on Banovo Brdo – construction of sport fields, restaurants, swimming pools, aqua park
By the decision on design of plan for detailed regulation of deep valley of Repiš brook on Banovo Brdo, which has been recently adopted by the City Assembly, the possibility of construction of sports-recreation facilities with related contents emerged. This is the location that represents degraded and unorganized area, that is, an unofficial dump that endangers its immediate environment for seventeen years
According to the words of Đorđe Bobić, the chief city architect, this program regulates part of city block whose limits are Trebevićka, Požeška, Đorđa Ognjanovića and Žarkovačka Street on Banovo Brdo in Borough of Čukarica.
- It is 4.5 ha of neglected land that currently looks like one big trash dump. General wish is that this area be organized and turned into recreation-sports complex with lot of greenery - says Bobić.
Also, construction of about 850 square meters of various related facilities on this land, such as cafes, pastry shops and small stores, is in the pipeline. The plan is that about 70% of space be covered with plants, while the rest will be sports courts.
The aim of this project is, first of all, rational use of building land in accordance with the purpose of green corridor defined in the General Plan of Belgrade prior to year 2021. The facilities that will be built on that land are multipurpose sports hall with stands, Olympic swimming pool and indoor mini aqua park.
There will also be an underground garage, while the sports fields will be built on the ground and on the roof of the underground garage. There will be two tennis courts, field for hockey on roller skates, volleyball court and basketball field.
Possibility of installation of cable railway from Novi Beograd, across Ada Ciganlija, to Sports center in Košutnjak, of which route in one of the variants would pass above this area on Banovo Brdo, is taken in consideration.
