Danish Kentaur factory in Vranje to close – More than 250 people to lose their jobs

Workers at the Danish Kentaur in Vranje were informed this Monday that they would lose their jobs “by force of law” because the factory, whose opening had been subsidized by the citizens of Serbia with almost a million euros, was closing.

The workers were greeted by a locked factory, with the notification that they could take their personal belongings from the factory premises starting the next day. The notification they received also states that the employer will give them a recommendation for any job they apply for, and that all benefits will be paid to them, including their salary for the entire month of October, as well as unused vacation days.

– You are entitled to a monthly benefit from the National Employment Service, for a period of two years. In order to receive the benefit, please contact the National Employment Service – the notification states.

The factory confirmed to reporters from Juzne Vesti that the plant was closing because it had declared liquidation.

The Kentaur Balkans factory opened in Vranje five years ago, and the citizens of Serbia subsidized the opening with nearly one million euros. At the time, the Vranje city government described the opening of Kentaur as proof that the state leadership, led by President Aleksandar Vucic, was “consistently implementing a policy of balanced development of all of Serbia.”
