Red Star Belgrade Stadium to Retain Race Track – Reconstruction in Phases Planned to Begin in 2023

The reconstruction of the Rajko Mitic Stadium (popularly known as “Marakana”, the stadium of the Red Star Belgrade football club), is no longer a luxury, but a basic necessity. UEFA criteria are high and they will become nearly unreachable for numerous Serbian clubs and their stadiums.

There is plenty of unofficial information, and there are even rumors about an investment by a Chinese company and Red Star Belgrade’s moving to Makis to the courts of the former Milicionar club.

– That’s not quite true. Three years ago, we organized an award contest for the preliminary design for the new Marakana. There were two designs, one with and the other without the race track. We opted for the former design, that is, the one with the race track, because the fans had demanded not to change the basic configuration of Marakana, so that the reconstructed stadium would remind us of the club’s glory days. An Italian state company prepared it and that’s the model for the reconstruction of Marakana. It will cost EUR 55,000,000. We will secure that money and we have a plan how. The reconstruction will start in 2023 and will be done in phases, so that matches can be plaid continuously, just like Real is doing now – Zvezdan Terzic says for Mozzartsport.

– The idea is to buy around 25 hectares of land around the airport. The plan is to make a training camp there, because this club needs it. There will be a science institute there, as well as nine court. All the knowledge in this country will be concentrated there. We will all move there – he added.

He also said that an additional selection of the first team will be made parallel with that and he also emphasized that he was proud that EUR 3,000,000 is invested each year in the youth school.

– We are soon launching a program of young talents for the best students. You can also expect Red Star Belgrade to keep up with the European and world trend and to issue its token and NFT in 2022 (a kind of cryptocurrency) – Terzic said.
