The Ministry of Mining and Energy has issued a decision approving the construction of mining facilities and conduction of mining operations for the copper and gold mine Cukaru Peki, to the company Zijin Mining. The total value of investments in the Cukaru Peki project is EUR 474m, the relevant ministry announced.

The mining project predicts an annual production of 3.3 million tons of copper and gold ore, and the exploitation reserves amount to 36,990,000 tons of ore.

- With the opening of this mine, which is planned for the last quarter of 2021, Serbia will become the second largest copper producer in Europe, after Poland, and its share in the production of this ore will increase from the current five to 18% - the announcement states.
