Features of Belgrade Technical Faculties Campus Project – New ETF Building, Common Spaces Planned as Well

The students of the technical faculties in Belgrade might get new features and facilities in the upcoming period – from the new building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (ETF), to additional features such as smaller amphitheaters, classrooms, sports courts, but also garages and restaurants.

This is envisaged by the project of the forming of a campus of technical faculties in Belgrade, which the Ministry of Education announced last week, the ETF Dean's Office told eKapija.

The campus project, which was launched based on the needs that the faculties had expressed, envisages an expansion of the capacities of the faculties of electrical engineering, architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and technology and metallurgy in Belgrade.

– The project entails a full development of the space between the technical faculties, which would entail the construction of an additional facility for ETF, but also the development and construction of additional features that would integrate the technical faculties in this space, such as garages, restaurants, smaller amphitheaters or classrooms that everyone would be able to use, sports courts etc, and the space within the block can also be developed and activated as a public access park – the ETF Dean's Office told our portal.

As the ETF Dean's Office explains, the ministry has launched an initiative to test the possibility of having the needs of all the faculties within this block be recognized, analyzed, and then solved in the long term through this project.

The aim of the project, they say, in addition to meeting the individual interests, is to contribute to a reduction of the operating costs and the programmatic and every other kind of cooperation between these institutions, their teachers and students, through a rational use of space within the block and common features.

– This project would practically form a “campus” of technical faculties – the Dean's Office says and adds that no students' home is planned within the block.

As the media reported earlier, the new ETF building should be located in the zone behind the faculty's current building, where there are around 7,000 square meters for the new technical campus.

Another two campuses

The competent ministry, as said last week, is preparing another campus project – a common building for the faculties of biology, geography and security studies in New Belgrade.

– The experience from this project, in the sense of procedures and mutual relations between the future users, can be used in the development of the project of the campus of technical faculties – the ministry concluded after a meeting at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering.

Also, in addition to the construction of the technical campus, it was announced in early 2019 that a campus for art faculties (dramatic, applied and musical arts) should be built. As said at the time, the plan was for it to be raised near Hotel Hyatt in New Belgrade.
