NIS plans 20 new petrol stations in Bulgaria

NIS will build 20 new filling stations in Bulgaria by the end of 2016, said Ivan Kostadinov, general manager of NIS Petrol Bulgaria.

NIS Petrol Bulgaria is 100% owned by Naftna Industrija Srbije whose majority shareholder is Gazprom Neft with a 56% equity stake.

Kostadinov explained that works would start in March or April. He noted that NIS Petrol Bulgaria owns 35 petrol stations in Bulgaria that are either bought or rented by its competitors, and that building the new gas stations would increase the total number to 55.

Kostadinov said that the priority locations for the new gas stations are new sections of the Trakia highway and roads where a significant part of the traffic is concentrated, such as exits from Sophia and other major cities.

The general manager of NIS Petrol added that the company had bought 5 other plots beside the Lyulin and Hemus highways, in Sliven and Sophia, and at the border crossing in Kulata.

Building permits for seven new stations have already been issued. Four of these are located beside the Trakia highway, and the other three in Sophia.

NIS Petrol Bulgaria currently controls 2.5% of the local fuel retail market and plans to expand its share to 10%.
