Posta Srbije is putting into operations its Regional postal and logistics center in Belgrade which will enable full transfer to automatic letters and parcels processing.
The Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic and GM at Poste Srbije, Milan Krkobabic, will attend the opening, the public company announced.
Posta Srbije poured EUR 46 m of its own funds in construction and equipping of the main postal centers in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis.
The equipment for postal center has been in trial period as of March 2014. Automatic
sorting equipment delivered by Japanese "Toshiba" and Italian "Sinetic"
totals EUR 12,6 m and it enables sorting of 820.000 letters and parcels a day.
The system will be able to sort in 90 seconds what a worker used to do in one
hour.
Regional postal and logistics center in Belgrade occupies 28.000m2 and at the
cornerstone placing, December 24, 2010, it was outlined it will be "the
heart of Poste Srbije.
Apart from postal center in Belgrade, postal centers in Novi Sad and Nis on 4.500 m2 have also been equipped.
The idea of the main postal center in Belgrade has been waiting for its implementation since 1971 when the first decision on construction was made.
