Serbian airliner "Jat Airways" and Airport "Portorož" intends to introduce flights on the line between Belgrade and Slovenian tourist Mecca at the seaside. The contract should be signed prior to April 20, 2007, when the expert meeting between Serbian and Slovenian economy is supposed to be held, while the Tourism Fair will start one day later.
Final decision about that should be made next week, which will be followed by the signing of the contract between "JAT" and Airport "Portorož", according to which the same airplane of "Jat" would have charter flight to Rome.
- The ideas has been prepared for the long time. It would really pity if we did not realize it – said Delo Zmago Skobir, the representative of Airport "Ljubljana", which is the majority owner of the Portorož airport.
At the end of the 1980’s, there was air connection between Belgrade and Portorož, which was in the focus of the interest of tourists who traveled from Serbia to Portorož, Istra and Trieste.
The line was cancelled at the beginning of the breakdown of the former joint country. The reason for its reestablishing is increased interest of guests from Serbia in Istra and Slovenia and in the travel by airplane. The return ticket would probably cost between 150 and 170 EUR.
"Jat" is ready to fly once a week with airplane ATR 72, which holds 66 passengers, between Belgrade and Portorož, under condition that it comes to the agreement with the Portorož airport about second part of the charter line to Rome, wherefrom it would bring Italian tourists to Portorož and then, the same night, fly to Belgrade. The Portorož casinos and hotels would, in case airplane was empty, have to guarantee compensation to JAT in amount of 100,000 EUR.
