Several months ago Municipality of Kruševac started negotiations about realization of ambitious project, of which aim would be increase in capacity of water production on accumulation lake “Ćelije”, as well as construction of new modern water factory, which would imply waste water treatment.
Entire financial structure amounts to €25m. French company "Veolia Water Systems" will also take part in implementation of the project by providing technology and capital assets.
Zoran Paunović, manager of Kruševac-based “Vodovod”, said that the planning of sewer network was underway, as well as collecting of all required analyses, expropriation of the land for the needs of the construction of that system. It is expected that earth and construction works will commence in Autumn 2005.
Construction of this big system will result in increase in water production to 1,200 l/sec. Present water consumption in Kruševac and surrounding area amounts to about 400 l/sec, which means that surplus will be distributed among the cities of west Serbia. According to estimates of the experts, the entire project should provide water for 560,000 users, which would solve the water supply problem of about 7% of population in Serbia. It is expected that the contract will be signed on June 12, 2005 in Paris.
Design of the study is entrusted to the experts from the Belgrade Institute “Jaroslav Černi”. The project encompasses the treatment of the source lake, waste water collecting by means of sewers, reconstruction of existing factory for production of healthy drinking water, construction of wastewater treatment factory, construction of mini hydroelectric power stations on existing system. Hydroelectric power station alone will be producing about 3 MW of electric power, which is enough for supplying of about 10,000 citizens with drinking water.
