Vojvodinašume opens breeding farms for fallow deer and wild boars

Last week the President of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina Ištvan Pastor and Director of the public company Vojvodinašume (Forests of Vojvodina) Marta Takač opened a farm for breeding fallow deer in the Ristovača hunting grounds at Bač, and the first centre in Serbia for breeding wild boar at the Kamarište hunting grounds.

Director of Vojvodinašume Marta Takač explained that, owing to the great demand for this kind of hunting on the EU market from where most foreign hunters come, the company will improve and massively develop its hunting tourism offer for that market through a business development policy in the field of hunting, and in this way justify its leading role in hunting in the Republic of Serbia.

“We think that with this way of breeding we can show that in the field of animal husbandry, people in Serbia can breed fallow deer. The genetic fund is on our farm, I hope we will in future be able to give the opportunity to others, farmers and breeders in Vojvodina and Serbia, to found their own small farms, so we can contribute to developing the whole country”, said Takač.

Two separate areas of 37,04 ha complete the first phase of building up the fallow deer farm, with an initial parent herd of 64 head. The second phase is due for completion in September 2015 when the number of the parent herd is planned to reach 280 head. Then the full production of this type of deer will be under way using this breeding technology.

Vojvodinašume owns the Kamarište hunting grounds where they have completed the first breeding centre for wild boar in Serbia under their 2014 business plan. This model of wild boar farm is unique in Serbia, and should reach full production capacity in 2016.
The basic aim of the 503-hectare centre is to produce 270 to 300 wild boar annually for hunting in the Vojvodinašume hunting grounds, by farm breeding in completely natural conditions.
