Will Nis-based airport maintain planes?

After the meeting of the City Council, Perisic said to journalists that there is an interest of foreign companies for this kind of an investment in Serbia.

According to him, there is a plan why Nis-based airport would be competitive with passenger and cargo traffic.

- Takeover of Nis-based airport would imply that the state will take care about the airport and it is not of its interest that the airport does not work – Perisic said.

At the same time, this means that the city budget will be lighter for RSD 80 – 100 m annually, the amount set aside for the Nis-based airport operations – Perisic added.

Nis-based airport previously survived thanks to the support of Belgrade-based airport. It was possible because of the rule on profit sharing so Nis-based airport received RSD 100 m for two years respectively and one year it received RSD 30 m, the mayor of Nis reminded.

Perisic said that new regulations make it is no longer possible.

The City Council adopted the decision on criteria for setting up airport services and the next step is adoption of elaborate which would be the basis for the contract with low-cost company which would fly as of April 1 next year.
