Early next year, three new international road border crossings will open towards Romania: Nakovo - Lunga, Jasa Tomic - Fenja and Vrbica - Valkanj. All three border crossings are in Banat which were extremely frequent until 2004 when Romania one-sidedly closed them.

The head of the North Banat region, Vladimir Ilic, announces the revival of border crossings whose ramps have been lifted occasionally within the previous two years, in some occasions only, mentioning that the Prime Minister Vucic and his Romanian colleague agreed the final opening during their recent meeting.

As Ilic says, soon specific moves within an ambitious plan of Serbia and Romania will follow. Firstly, abandoned facilities will be rehabilitated and entire infrastructure will be provided. In that sense, they will mutually submit requests for necessary additional assets from IPA funds. In order to completely rehabilitate uninterrupted functioning of border crossings, it will take some EUR 5 mil.

Data that every time when the ramp would lift, more than 2000 mostly motorized passengers crossed it proves in the most illustrative manner that the opening of new border crossings towards the neighboring country. Two future crossings, at Nakovo in Kikinda municipality and Vrbice in Coka municipality will open in closed border area from Srpska Crnja to Majdan Rabe village at the end of the north, 70 km ling. The Jasa Tomic border crossing is at the place with the same name in Secanj municipality.
