Esmark – one of the potential partners in Smedervo-based Zelezara

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has discussed today in Belgrade with the representatives of American Esmark which is interested in the purchase of Zelezara Smederevo, the Government announced.

The Government of Serbia expressed an intention to sell Smederevo-based Zelezara, it thinks that Esmark in one of the credible potential partners with which the final status of Zelezara will be defined in the following period.

In his discussion with the Esmark’s Board President, Jim Bushard pointed out the importance of preserving as many jobs as possible in Zelezara, it was stated in the announcement,

Esmark Steel Group is one of the leading processors and distributors of flat-rolled steel and the third producer of steel plates in America. They own more steel processing facilities.

The Government of Serbia is the owner of Zelezara Smederevo since 2012 when American company, U.S. Steel, stepped back.

So far, tender for the sales of Zelezara has been released two times but not a single offer was delivered and new tender, as it has been announced, will be released after the discussion with potential buyers.
