Construction of bicycle path from Zrenjanin to Temisvar in preparation - project worth 2,3 million EUR

At the City Hall in Zrenjanin, there was a meeting between the city administration and Romanian partners about building bike paths, the total length of 75 kilometers, which would connect Zrenjanin and Timişoara.
The Romanian side has built a track section from Timisoara to the Romanian-Serbian border, a distance of 37 kilometers, while Zrenjanin built a path to Klek, last year.
In the following period Zrenjanin should do the feasibility study for the part that needs to be built from Klek to the border with Romania.
Construction of the track is being implemented through the project "capitalization of cross-border tourism potential, including bicycle paths along Begej downstream from Timisoara", and it is financed, for the most part, from the IPA.
The project is worth about 2.3 million of which Zrenjanin city should get around 246.000 euros. IPA funds allocated around 209.000 euros, while the city budget will allocate for this purpose about 37.000 euros.
Project manager, from the Banat Water management department, Mihaela Madar, said that the work by the Romanian side had officially begun in May this year and so far about eight kilometers have been prepared for paving.
The assistant mayor of Zrenjanin, Dusko Radisic, said that the main objective of the project was to increase competitiveness through better connections to the border regions and improvement of alternative tourism relations between the two regions.
At the crossing of the state border, in the area of Novi Itebej, where part of the border makes Begej canal, will be installed the appropriate border crossing, according to the regulations of the European Union, and the track should be completed next year.
