Belgrade City Manager Goran Vesic has announced that the city will land two or three public private partnership deals, adding that the aim is to implement the first project of that kind for Vinca landfill because it is the least regulated spot in this part of Europe.
According to him, it has been agreed that preparations for such a big project are to be done by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, while the City should settle ownership and legal relations and prepare comprehensive land-use plans in the meantime, so they could be ready for the announcement of international tender for landfill management early next year.
As he added, 13 companies have expressed interest in Vinca landfill management to date and meetings were held with each of them.
The project is valued at between 200 and 300 million euro, and it will solve a big environmental problem and make it possible for the City to generate additional revenues. It will also be possible to produce power and hire few hundred workers.
