Serbia among top ten countries in danger of hacker attacks by Dragonfly

A cyber espionage campaign that has been ongoing for quite some time now, targeting various industries with the accent on the energy sector, has made it possible for cyber attackers to move to the next level of assault - sabotage operations. A group of hackers known as Dragonfly has managed to endanger the systems of certain number of strategically important organizations, spy on them, and infect them with malicious software.
Among the main targets are power supply companies, electricity producers, oil companies, and the manufacturers of power equipment. Most of the victims are located in Spain, USA and France. The list of the most affected countries also includes Serbia which ranks among the top ten.
The Dragonfly group operates in different ways. Its most ambitious attacks were directed at the industrial control systems (ICS) of equipment manufacturers. Companies got infected by updating a legitimate software that the attackers previously infected, that is, trojanized.
Before unveiling the report on Dragonfly's attacks, Symantec first notified the victims and national authorities of the affected countries.
