JAT Airways to buy Montenegroairlines ?

Unofficially, Jat Airways started initiative for merging with "Montenegro airlines". The negotiations between Serbian and Montenegrin air transportation companies are schedulled for the next week.

Also unofficially, the Ministry of Capital Investments and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and TRansportation of Montenegro have nothing against such decision. With this arrangement, "Montenegro" would be freed from the debts and completely merged with JAT. There is also possibility of joint venture, in which JAT would run business and financial policies, while the Montenegrins would exploit JAT's market.

"Montenegro airlines" has been in very difficult economic situation for a long time, due to lack of work. Also, after Serbia and Montenegro separated, Montenegroairlines can not operate as domestic company on Serbian market any more.

JAT is interested in merging with "Montenegro Airlines" mainly because of the five aircrafts of type "foker-100", with 100 seats each, since JAT lacks airplanes.

According to Blic of February 25, 2007, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Transportation of Montenegro and Montenegro airlines deny these claims and only confirm that the meeting was held with the representatives of JAT Airways, but on the request of Serbian airliner.
