Wastewater recycling contracts signed in Krusevac, Uzice and Vranje – Project worth EUR 60.8 million

EUR 60.8 million contract for ``Water supplying and wastewater recycling in medium-sized municipalities in Serbia III`` program implementation in Krusevac, Vranje and Uzice was signed in Belgrade yesterday. The contract was signed by mayors of the three towns and representatives of Development Bank of Germany (KfW), which provided EUR 46 million, while IPA funds of EU provided EUR 14.8 million.

Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Prof.Dr. Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic said that the program, which has been carried out so far, values EUR 150 million and added that cooperation with German KfW bank started in 2005 on different projects of waste gathering and wastewater recycling.

Chief of communication department at the Serbian Government`s European Integration Office, Ramunas Janusauskas, said that only 5 - 10% of wastewater is being currently recycled in Serbia , which contributes to drinking water pollution and environment pollution.

Chief of KfW Office in Belgrade, Jurgen Velschof, announced another initial meetings with eight Serbian municipalities about water supplying and wastewater recycling projects.

The project in Krusevac costs EUR 24.8 million, where only 5% is provided by public company ``Vodovod`` Krusevac. EUR 14 million out of the whole amount is planned for construction of wastewater recycling factory plant, while EUR 8 million should be used for expansion and partly for reconstruction of sewage system. A tender for contractor should be announced soon, and the start of construction works on the factory is planned for the beginning of April 2015, writes town`s site.
