Zemun-Borča bridge to be finished mid-August 2014 – approach roads completed autumn 2015

Works on the Danube bridge between Zemun and Borča should be finished in about 2 months, declared Nikola Nikodijević, President of Belgrade City Assembly on Tuesday 10 June 2014.
“The Borča-Zemun bridge is being worked upon. As you know, there have been negotiations about deadlines for the last few months, but what is now clear is that the bridge itself will be completed in about two months, and the approach road from the Laket bend in Zemun to the bridge will be finished by the end of the year”, said Nikodijević to RTS.
According to Nikodijević, all the approaches to the bridge from the Pančevo and Zrenjanin roads should be built by September 2015.
“The bridge will be more completely in use from September 2015, and we believe it will greatly relieve the traffic in the town centre and reduce jams”, said Nikodijević.
The Danube bridge will be 1,507 metres long, 29.1 metres wide and 22.8 metres high, with six lanes in all plus footpaths and cycle tracks on both sides, and 21.6 km of approach roads. The main span is 362 metres wide. Works began at the end of October 2011.
The total cost of the bridge with approach roads is about USD 260 million, of which 85% is loaned by Exim Bank and the remaining 15% provided by the Serbian state and the City of Belgrade. The works are carried out by the company China Road and Bridge Corporation.
This will be the second bridge over the Danube in Belgrade with the Urban plan foreseeing a further one at Vinča. Another bridge is also planned over Ada Huja.
