Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Antic met Thursday (5 June 2014) with a delegation of the Rio Tinto company which then updated him on the progress of the Jadar project, the most important project of this company in Serbia.
The meeting also saw the presentation of activities of Rio Tinto Group globally and in Serbia.
As the ministry said in a release, this project focuses on the exploration of jadarit ores in the valley of the Jadar River. Jadarit is a unique boron mineral discovered in 2004 by a team of geologists of the Rio Tinto company.
The Jadar project, which is in now in the phase of preparation of Preliminary Feasibility Study, has a substantial economic potential, so if the project moves on to the operation phase, it is assumed that this ore deposit could meet the global demand for lithium and boron to a substantial extent.
Aforementioned meeting was attended by Rio Tinto Minerals Deputy President Kevork Couzdyan, Richard Story, the general manager of the Jadar project, and Nenad Grubin, the head of Rio Tinto Serbia.
