Potential Cooperation of Serbia and China in the Metal Sector

Metal sector companies from Serbia can work with partners from China on joint projects , for which they will apply for funding from the EU and to perform together in third markets , it was agreed at today's meeting of Serbian and Chinese businessmen from the city of Foshan, in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce .
Representative of the Chamber of Commerce for the metal industry, Nenad Dragovic said that the industry had 5,000 companies , 105,000 employees and a wide range of products, and it was estimated that the strategic sectors should be industry , energy, agriculture , information technology and ecology.
Dragovic explained to Chinese businessmen that strategic sectors of our country are automotive industry , road and rail vehicles , information technology , energy , agricultural machinery and defense industry .
He said that the export of Serbian metal industry last year was 5.3 billion USD , which is 62% higher than 2012. , while imports increased from five billion in 2012 to 7.2 billion USD.

Motor vehicles were the significant part of the export, with two billion dollars, then electronic equipment for 446 million, home appliances for 308 million, 302 million for electric motors , car parts for 168 , general-purpose machines for 169 million and special equipment for 167 million USD .
Dragovic said that the companies which are majority-owned by foreign investors were involved in the export with 70%, and some of the largest exporters were " Fiat Automobiles Serbia " , " Yura Corporation " , " Leoni system " , " Gorenje " and " Ball Packaging " .
He said he expected significant role of government in infrastructure development through attracting foreign investors in large companies , which will have a network of subcontractors and through the revival of some industrial giants.
Dragovic presented to Chinese businessmen the advantages that Serbia has through the possibility of duty-free exports to certain countries , activities related to energy and information technology , as well as the importance of the South Stream gas pipeline , which will connect several countries , and that in the coming period, Serbia expects eight billion euros of investment.
He also said to the potential Chinese investors that Serbia had enough machines , which only needed to be modernized .
The Chinese have stated that they have been developing in last few years their automotive industry , especially cars with new types of fuel and that they can see possible cooperation in that area with our companies .
