Slovenia's Aha Mura declared bankrupt

Clothing maker Aha Mura, which emerged from the remnants of the once proud clothing giant Mura, was sent into bankruptcy by a Murska Sobota court after failing to settle its tax bill.

The decision, as part of which around 1,200 jobs will be lost, came after the Murska Sobota District Court gave owner Mojca Lukancic an extension to pay the EUR 6.3m tax debt last week, the Slovenian news agency STA has reported.

Lukancic had been in talks with a potential foreign investor for her Aha Group, but that failed to bring about a life-saving deal.

Creditors have been given until August 25th to register their claims to Aha Mura.

The Aha Mura Group consists of 12 companies. One of them is Pirot-based Aha Mura Prvi Maj which employs 1,300 workers and has been pushed into bankruptcy as a result of the bankruptcy declared for its parent company.

The fate of the Pirot-based factory will be decided in the next few days, while 1,200 employees of the parent company in Murska Sobota have already announced strikes.
