VUČIĆ: Damage up to a billion euros

Prime Minister Vučić says it is difficult to estimate the damage caused by the floods, but that it is expected to reach into hundreds of millions of euros, some even speaking of a billion.

Replying to journalists` questions about the extent of flood damage, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić added that we shall have to rely on foreign assistance.

“We are expecting considerable help from foreign governments, we need medicines, food, especially baby food and building materials”, said Vučić, emphasizing the need for help from abroad since we need to build many roads and bridges and renovate infrastructure, which will not be easy.

“We are looking at months of recovery and we are facing many people whose lives we will not be able to give back”, said Vučić, expressing thanks for the help received from Russia, Slovenia, the European Commission, Germany, Turkey, Macedonia, Montenegro, Hungary, Romania and all other European countries, declaring that “the people of Serbia never forget their friends”.

The Prime Minister said he hopes the worst has passed, but that this will not be known for the next five days.

Vučić added that Serbia has done an excellent job of protecting its power stations, stressing that he hopes that we will succeed entirely in protecting them, since if they stop working it would cost Serbia around 600 million euros, which our country would not be able to manage.
